The primary responsibilities are to maintain uptime for end users to access their business applications and will include desktop, server, and networking support. Additional responsibilities may include working on a variety of internal Catalyst projects and other client support requirements as required including, but not limited to, desktops, servers, operating systems, LAN/WAN, security, wireless, backups, disaster recovery, remote access, e-mail, collaboration, reporting, support issue management, and other areas as required. The position requires self-motivation, a strong ability to manage projects independently, and great attention to detail. The individual is expected to report to the client directly and indirectly through a Catalyst technical services manager.

Qualifications:
- Knowledge of computer hardware including desktops, laptops, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.

- One to two years experience

Technical Requirements:
One year experience with A+ certification or equivalent work experience.

In each of these positions I would have to think critically and diagnose different issues with computer/networks/etc. I enjoy fixing/upgrading computers <as long as it is not my own> and maintaining their performance.

Well i think for each of the positions an A+ Certification will be very beneficial. I could use more experience in the server maintaining as well. I personally know very little on how to maintain a server. And for each of these jobs, most of it is having experience and knowledge to prove that I am able to help their companies out.

I feel I know quite a bit about each one of these jobs. If I feel that I need to know more about the positions I would call the company and ask a few questions <talk to HR and show an interest in their company>. Outside of the position requirements and duties, I would want to know about benefits <401k, medical, dental, vision, life, etc… > I am very interested in these positions. Mainly because, at the moment I am traveling about 80% of the time. Each one of these will keep me sleeping at my own home everyday. Which will be great. From this lab it makes me realize I just cant jump in and go, I have to build up myself with the experience and knowledge first. That way I am not too incompetent.

1. A major milestone for computers it the INTERNET. It has changed everything we do today; communication, shopping, and education. Another milestone is going mobile. Computers are getting smaller and computer capabilities are being found everywhere. With these milestones the future is going to be completely mobile. There will be very little use for a desktop computer anymore, especially when you have the same capabilities on your phone.

2. The growth of computer and IT industry does not need to be slowed down. Capitolism is going to happen whether is slows or not so just let it happen. As for benefits and drawbacks… well i will start with drawbacks: HACKING – it is becoming easier and easier for hackers to get to get information. and the other thing is availability for information – you can google someone and get anything and almost everything if you know how to use the Boolean logic correctly. The benefit is availability of information. Yes this fits on both sides. The ease of getting information is great, but it is how you use that information. remember Knowledge is power.

3. The reason i am attracted to the computer/IT field is because i am in the medical/health field right now. when i was in school all you needed for the health field to be in it and successful is a Bachelors. while i was at school it was going through a process of having higher education and specialization. I just enjoyed being healthy but that is not good enough for that field anymore. So now i am looking at the computer/IT field because one i enjoy computers. two i have always thought of having my own store but i am back at school to fill in some gaps that my experience and knowledge lacks. and three there will always be a need for IT/computers in the future.

My Movie review… I chose Lord of the Rings. I know there was alot of CGI used in this movie. I watched a trailor that showed how they provided alot of these CGI. What i found most interesting is how they created the images. It was not all computerized characters. The way they made the images so smooth and realistic was by using real people. They provided a special suite that helped digitize human behavior. These people were mimicking different behaviors to create the different races, elves, and orcs.

The images in the movie were very realistic and provided some very good scenes in the movie. I was impressed with the history of the Battle of 3rd earth, when it was Humans and elves vs. goblins and orc. Ten thousand strong for both sides and each animated character with artificial intelligence where they all had different movements. And then the battle begins. This scene plays an important role in the movie but the realism makes it difficult to see when there are real people in the scene or if they are computer generated.

This is what i like to see when i am watching a movie. I dont want to see the difference in scenes that are with the actual humans and when they implement CGI. This scene switch like this can really break or make my decision if i like the movie or not. When the Matrix came to the big screen i loved it. The graphics were completely amazing. Then moving to the next couple of movies you were able to see when they started going to CGIs <mainly when there were hundreds of Agents in the scene attacking Neo>.

Issue:

1. Have you had trouble using software, music CDs, or movie DVDs because of copy protection? Well personally, i have not had this issue. Though my brother-in-law just paid for anime series online and tried to burn them to a dvd, and could not because of the copy protection. He was only allowed to save it on his hard drive. When he tried burning it on a dvd it simply told him that these files are protected. Still to this day he has not found any software to copy them to disk. He feels that he should be able to burn them because he has a reciept and purchased them legally.

2. In you opinion, do sites like the iTunes Music Store provide consumers with enough flexibility for copying files and creating play lists? Yes and no. Yes because you can download music but it limits what you can do with it. you are able to put it on your iPod but when you want copy it to a different harddrive it will not allow you to. I watched friends try this once, he got a new iPod and wanted certain songs from one of his buddies. They hooked up the iPod and tried to take the music from the iPod and put it on the harddrive to then put it on this new iPod. It would not copy or even move the file over.

3. Do you think digital rights management technologies are justified because of the high rate of piracy? Yes there is alot of piracy going on with copying music and movies. But really how are they going to inforce it. send a ticket through the mail? arrest those that are currently doing it? Yes it will scare people but people are scared enough as it is. So if they want to apply this protection on stuff. It really wont bother me too much. until i want to copy something so i know i can keep the original in better condition.

Here is a list of objects that i encountered during the first 5 mins of playing World of Warcraft.

To start off is the sign in screen, where I encountered background music, a moving green aura around a doorway <portal>, then a 2 small texts boxes to put in you account name and password, and also a button to click to enter the game. What happened next was it had a pop up that ran through the authenticating process to log into the game. With the pop up there was a noise <hard to describe, like a door slamming>.

Then next page it went to was the character page. This page had a list of all the chars that i had on this server <note if it is your first time it it will take you to a server list first, which you must choose one to enter the world>. I have an addon button in the bottom left corner of this screen. I went and clicked on a create character button which brought up another menu on the left side that gave me choices about what race <4 good guys and 4 bad guys>. For each race there is a different background. Each race will also have different classes you can choose from <anywhere from 4-6 different classes>. Also the character i was creating was moving and blinking at me as well <almost like it was telling me to hurry up>. There is also a text box in the center bottom of the page where you can type in the name of the character i just created. Plus a button underneath that created names randomly. After the create char button is clicked, that characters portrait now is in the list of the of all the chars. Now you click on this portrait, and the entire person shows up in the center of the screen again. This time there is a button that appears that says enter world. After hitting enter world it will come to a loading screen, with a pretting interesting portrait and also a status bar at the bottom that will keep track of how far along the loading process is going.

Now it will go through small little video and a voice that will give you background on whatever race you chose and how they entered the war. As you enter and start moving around it will have your buttons that you can use at the bottom, your portrait at the top left corner <along with a health bar and another bar for mana/energy/or rage>, a chat channel in the bottom left corner and a mini map of the area you are in, up in the top right corner of the screen. As you move a tutorial will appear to give you the basics of the game. you also have a chance to turn this option off. while running around in this 3d world the background moves with the way the person is facing. Also you can see the animal and other character moving in the background as well. As you can see in the picture, there is a casting bar for the spell that i hit. As well as a target portrait <this will include a health bar>.

This is all the farther i got with in the 5 minute allowance. That creating character screen can keep a person in there forever. Especially if the name you choose is already taken.

What do you think???

1. Can you think of a specific instance when you have become frustrated with a software user interface?

i get frustrated with alot of new software. it is mainly from just a small differences from what i was using before. For vista is the extra security of asking are you really sure you want to do this, do you trust this program. That is the most recent one and the only one that comes to my mind at the moment.

2. Is it possible to make computer software significantly easier to use?

with the technology today, it is too difficult for the common public to understand how to work everything. there wont be anything that is easy enough for everyone to handle, it really depends on the public if they want to be able to understand more about the software. most people just want to leave it as email, internet, and microsoft word. it works for them and that is all that they are going to use. why would they stray from that.

3. Would you agree that programmers do not understand the viewpoint of a typical computer user and consequently produce bad software?

i think programmers understand the viewpoint pretty well. They still produce some bad software but what ever they produce will be great to some people and bad to others. like i said before it really depends on the user if they like the product or not.

What do I think of the Computer Bill of Rights?

from reading the computer bill of rights, they sound great. but is it highly unlikely that the user will ever be the master of software, doesnt the user have to put forth effort to understand the software. so my thoughts about it is that the computer bill of rights is a joke.

How would I like to see technology used in my courses? and do you think games and/or simulations or blogs or wikis could be used effectively in courses?

i do like the use of the blogs, and i have used forums in classes as well. The one issue that we ran into with forums was posting assignments on the forums. People would copy and paraphrase what the first person wrote and that was all that was writen. no one took the other side to cause a real discussion. Blogs are helpful to share just my opinion and ohter can comment whether they agree or not. I do enjoy games and simulations for education as long as it goes along with the subjects. I have seen too many games and simulations where they get off tangent really quick. Wikis may be helpful but it would be difficult to see on what people are actually saying because others can change the information.

Googling my name… well this was interesting. I didnt know there at two others that had the same name as me. When I put in my first and last name it came up with a bunch of wedding information that was held in New York, and talking about how much of a big wig I am. Then there was another down in Florida <which these two others are father and son>. I turned to my phone and called my dad to find out more about these guys. It really didn’t have much on me, which was surprising. No news articles that I have been mentioned in the past. But I was glad to see that my personal information is not out there.

The ?’s are manly for unsure of what to do. For some of the occasions I could think of why they would want to know my spouse’s and children’s names. I guess it really depends on the situation they are asking for the information. But they would have to ask me, because I am not going to be so open and upfront if I am unsure why they want that information. I would ask WHY?

1. What strategies can an organization use to respond to threats from competitors or take advantage of opportunities? How does an organization’s mission statement help to guide them in identifying and pursuing these strategies?

Well the mission statement describes not only an organization’s goals, but also the way in which those goals willl be accomplished. The best thing an organization can do is to follow their rules and create the best product they can. As for their competitors making threats or taking advantage or opportunities, not really sure what can be done beside turn the other cheek. Most of the threats are just words and are there to just try to make others panic.
2. The decision to create an information system is sometimes driven by new technology “that is, new hardware or software that makes it possible to automate a system or process” while others are driven by users’ the people who will ultimately use the information system. What are the pros and cons of each approach?

Well either way information systems are created there will be problems with both. If it is made because of new hardware or software it will be out dated very quickly. There are always new technology coming out but to make it compatible for everything and work the way people want it to it goes under so much testing to make sure it is what they want. By that time there is something new out there they have to try to stay ahead of the technology. And for the other way of being driven by the users which is nice to think that they are trying to think of the common user, it will still be to advanced for most. From experience at my job, there are alot of people that dont understand how a computer works and their experience is email and microsoft office. If they try to do more than that, they feel that are going to break the computer because they feel that them and technology is a bad combination.
3. Recall a time when you were frustrated by the way a program or operating system was functioning. How did you solve the problem? For example, did you use a help desk, user manual, or solve the problem on your own? Could the design of the program or operating system itself cause the problem? If so, what changes would you recommend to make the solution to your problem more obvious.

This is easy for me. I have run into this problem just reciently on my laptop. It runs microsoft vista, and i was planning to use this computer for casual gaming and mainly keep in touch with my wife as I am traveling for work. Well with vista and all the home security that they try to have in it, it has my computer running around 65 processes in the background. Also with gaming updates, and patches it is very annoying to keep having the security alert come up and ask if you really want to have this update, and is this really what you want to do, and are you sure you want to allow a download from this site. What I have done with this is, there is a option to run the operating system more like windows xp <which by the way i love> so I have done that. It still gives me some of the pop ups but not as many. But it is not running as many processes in the background either. But what I am going to end up doing is putting Windows XP on the laptop and leave it at that.
4. Some users have suggested that user documentation should be developed before the system, and then used as the blueprint for system design. How would this approach change the development process and the system itself?

It is not a bad idea to have a blueprint for the system design. But with everyone out there making changes with upgrades, that blueprint wont be valid for long. The development process would be short and easy but then there will be so many patches to keep up with all the changes that are made to the machine. Or it will be so complex that it will have files for all upgrades that are out at that time.

Issue: where do i draw the line when it comes to censoring and filtering on the internet?

My biggest thing is our society. We are too greedy to look at the development of our own kids. I believe that our children have to much say in what happens in their lives. We are not providing them with enough direction to make a good decision. So when it comes to filtering the internet I think parents should. They need to block sites so their kids are not exposed to it until they are albe to think logically about any situation and put thought behind their decision. So when I have kids, their Internet use will be filtered with adult filters, and watched. But I do figure I would be helping them most of the time with their research.

As for the government, I dont believe they should filter the citizens use of internet. If they had the opportunity to filter the internet and only show what we want to show we would all have the thoughts about everything. It almost sounds like subliminal messaging or even brainwash. Which we have the right to have our own opinion.

Should anyone be policing the internet. I am not sure what they will be doing. Where are they to say what is right and wrong. The other issue that it would bring up if there were people policing the internet, is WHO WOULD BE POLICING THEM???

But for a company like AOL.com filtering sites that think is inappropriate. They should be able to block what is technically theirs site. Its their site and thier web space, Block what ever you think is not fitable for your clients. And if they dont like it let them know that is was nice of them to use this company but it would be best if they found another provider.

My first time using the interent was a long time ago. PRODIGY was the thing to use. Which for some odd reason my father still uses his dial up connection. but then he really doesnt do much online. The reason I was getting online was to go look up for more resources for a science project. What I do now on the internet is communication with my friends <email>, gaming, and still research on projects. I started getting into gaming in college when I had freedom to make my own choices. But looking back at my life was alway a gamer, just not on the internet. My friends had different consoles than I did and we would go from each others houses and playing. So it is not surprising that I made the choice to get into gaming.
